Bible: Ps 14-16

Psalm 14 1

14:1 For the music director; by David.

Fools say to themselves, 2 There is no God.” 3

They sin and commit evil deeds; 4

none of them does what is right. 5

14:2 The Lord looks down from heaven 6  at the human race, 7

to see if there is anyone who is wise 8  and seeks God. 9

14:3 Everyone rejects God; 10

they are all morally corrupt. 11

None of them does what is right, 12

not even one!

14:4 All those who behave wickedly 13  do not understand 14

those who devour my people as if they were eating bread,

and do not call out to the Lord.

14:5 They are absolutely terrified, 15

for God defends the godly. 16

14:6 You want to humiliate the oppressed, 17

even though 18  the Lord is their 19  shelter.

14:7 I wish the deliverance 20  of Israel would come from Zion!

When the Lord restores the well-being of his people, 21

may Jacob rejoice, 22

may Israel be happy! 23

Psalm 15 24

15:1 A psalm of David.

Lord, who may be a guest in your home? 25

Who may live on your holy hill? 26

15:2 Whoever lives a blameless life, 27

does what is right,

and speaks honestly. 28

15:3 He 29  does not slander, 30

or do harm to others, 31

or insult his neighbor. 32

15:4 He despises a reprobate, 33

but honors the Lord’s loyal followers. 34

He makes firm commitments and does not renege on his promise. 35

15:5 He does not charge interest when he lends his money. 36

He does not take bribes to testify against the innocent. 37

The one who lives like this 38  will never be upended.

Psalm 16 39

16:1 A prayer 40  of David.

Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. 41

16:2 I say to the Lord, “You are the Lord,

my only source of well-being.” 42

16:3 As for God’s chosen people who are in the land,

and the leading officials I admired so much 43

16:4 their troubles multiply,

they desire other gods. 44

I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, 45

nor will I make vows in the name of their gods. 46

16:5 Lord, you give me stability and prosperity; 47

you make my future secure. 48

16:6 It is as if I have been given fertile fields

or received a beautiful tract of land. 49

16:7 I will praise 50  the Lord who 51  guides 52  me;

yes, during the night I reflect and learn. 53

16:8 I constantly trust in the Lord; 54

because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended.

16:9 So my heart rejoices

and I am happy; 55

My life is safe. 56

16:10 You will not abandon me 57  to Sheol; 58

you will not allow your faithful follower 59  to see 60  the Pit. 61

16:11 You lead me in 62  the path of life; 63

I experience absolute joy in your presence; 64

you always give me sheer delight. 65
