Bible: Luke 7:14-30

7:14 Then 1  he came up 2  and touched 3  the bier, 4  and those who carried it stood still. He 5  said, “Young man, I say to you, get up! 7:15 So 6  the dead man 7  sat up and began to speak, and Jesus 8  gave him back 9  to his mother. 7:16 Fear 10  seized them all, and they began to glorify 11  God, saying, “A great prophet 12  has appeared 13  among us!” and “God has come to help 14  his people! 7:17 This 15  report 16  about Jesus 17  circulated 18  throughout 19  Judea and all the surrounding country.

Jesus and John the Baptist

7:18 John’s 20  disciples informed him about all these things. So 21  John called 22  two of his disciples 7:19 and sent them to Jesus 23  to ask, 24  “Are you the one who is to come, 25  or should we look for another? 7:20 When 26  the men came to Jesus, 27  they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, 28  ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?’ 29  7:21 At that very time 30  Jesus 31  cured many people of diseases, sicknesses, 32  and evil spirits, and granted 33  sight to many who were blind. 7:22 So 34  he answered them, 35 Go tell 36  John what you have seen and heard: 37  The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the 38  deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them. 7:23 Blessed is anyone 39  who takes no offense at me.”

7:24 When 40  John’s messengers had gone, Jesus 41  began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness 42  to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 43  7:25 What 44  did you go out to see? A man dressed in fancy 45  clothes? 46  Look, those who wear fancy clothes and live in luxury 47  are in kings’ courts! 48  7:26 What did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more 49  than a prophet. 7:27 This is the one about whom it is written, ‘Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, 50  who will prepare your way before you.’ 51  7:28 I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater 52  than John. 53  Yet the one who is least 54  in the kingdom of God 55  is greater than he is.” 7:29 (Now 56  all the people who heard this, even the tax collectors, 57  acknowledged 58  God’s justice, because they had been baptized 59  with John’s baptism. 7:30 However, the Pharisees 60  and the experts in religious law 61  rejected God’s purpose 62  for themselves, because they had not been baptized 63  by John. 64 ) 65
