Bible: Jon 1:16-2:10

1:16 The men feared the Lord 1  greatly, 2  and earnestly vowed 3  to offer lavish sacrifices 4  to the Lord. 5

1:17

Jonah Prays

6

The Lord sent 7  a huge 8  fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights. 2:1 Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish 2:2 and said,

I 9  called out to the Lord from my distress,

and he answered me; 10

from the belly of Sheol 11  I cried out for help,

and you heard my prayer. 12

2:3 You threw me 13  into the deep waters, 14

into the middle 15  of the sea; 16

the ocean current 17  engulfed 18  me;

all the mighty waves 19  you sent 20  swept 21  over me. 22

2:4 I thought 23  I had been banished from your sight, 24

that I would never again 25  see your holy temple! 26

2:5 Water engulfed me up to my neck; 27

the deep ocean 28  surrounded me;

seaweed 29  was wrapped around my head.

2:6 I went down 30  to the very bottoms 31  of the mountains; 32

the gates 33  of the netherworld 34  barred me in 35  forever; 36

but you brought me 37  up from the Pit, 38  O Lord, my God.

2:7 When my life 39  was ebbing away, 40  I called out to 41  the Lord,

and my prayer came to your holy temple. 42

2:8 Those who worship 43  worthless idols 44  forfeit the mercy that could be theirs. 45

2:9 But as for me, I promise to offer a sacrifice to you with a public declaration 46  of praise; 47

I will surely do 48  what I have promised. 49

Salvation 50  belongs to the Lord! 51

2:10 Then the Lord commanded 52  the fish and it disgorged Jonah on dry land.
