Bible: 2 Samuel 22:6-18

22:6 The ropes of Sheol 1  tightened around me; 2

the snares of death trapped me. 3

22:7 In my distress I called to the Lord;

I called to my God. 4

From his heavenly temple 5  he heard my voice;

he listened to my cry for help. 6

22:8 The earth heaved and shook; 7

the foundations of the sky 8  trembled. 9

They heaved because he was angry.

22:9 Smoke ascended from 10  his nose; 11

fire devoured as it came from his mouth; 12

he hurled down fiery coals. 13

22:10 He made the sky sink 14  as he descended;

a thick cloud was under his feet.

22:11 He mounted 15  a winged angel 16  and flew;

he glided 17  on the wings of the wind. 18

22:12 He shrouded himself in darkness, 19

in thick rain clouds. 20

22:13 From the brightness in front of him

came coals of fire. 21

22:14 The Lord thundered 22  from the sky;

the sovereign One 23  shouted loudly. 24

22:15 He shot 25  arrows and scattered them, 26

lightning and routed them. 27

22:16 The depths 28  of the sea were exposed;

the inner regions 29  of the world were uncovered

by the Lord’s battle cry, 30

by the powerful breath from his nose. 31

22:17 He reached down from above and grabbed me; 32

he pulled me from the surging water. 33

22:18 He rescued me from my strong enemy, 34

from those who hate me,

for they were too strong for me.
