39:4 “O Lord, help me understand my mortality

and the brevity of life! ¹ 

Let me realize how quickly my life will pass! ² 

39:5 Look, you make my days short-lived, ³ 

and my life span is nothing from your perspective. ⁴ 

Surely all people, even those who seem secure, are nothing but vapor. ⁵ 

39:6 Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. ⁶ 

Surely they accumulate worthless wealth

without knowing who will eventually haul it away.” ⁷ 

1:9 God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place ¹  and let dry ground appear.” ²  It was so. 1:10 God called the dry ground “land” ³  and the gathered waters he called “seas.” God saw that it was good.

1:11 God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: ⁴  plants yielding seeds according to their kinds, ⁵  and ⁶  trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.” It was so. 1:12 The land produced vegetation – plants yielding seeds according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. God saw that it was good.
