Bible: Psalm 19:1-6; 50:1-6; 114:1-8
Psalm 19 1
19:1 For the music director; a psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God; 2
the sky displays his handiwork. 3
19:2 Day after day it speaks out; 4
night after night it reveals his greatness. 5
19:3 There is no actual speech or word,
nor is its 6 voice literally heard.
19:4 Yet its voice 7 echoes 8 throughout the earth;
its 9 words carry 10 to the distant horizon. 11
In the sky 12 he has pitched a tent for the sun. 13
19:5 Like a bridegroom it emerges 14 from its chamber; 15
like a strong man it enjoys 16 running its course. 17
19:6 It emerges from the distant horizon, 18
and goes from one end of the sky to the other; 19
nothing can escape 20 its heat.
The Burials of Jacob and Joseph
50:1 Then Joseph hugged his father’s face. 1 He wept over him and kissed him. 50:2 Joseph instructed the physicians in his service 2 to embalm his father, so the physicians embalmed Israel. 50:3 They took forty days, for that is the full time needed for embalming. 3 The Egyptians mourned 4 for him seventy days. 5
50:4 When the days of mourning 6 had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh’s royal court, 7 “If I have found favor in your sight, please say to Pharaoh, 8 50:5 ‘My father made me swear an oath. He said, 9 “I am about to die. Bury me 10 in my tomb that I dug for myself there in the land of Canaan.” Now let me go and bury my father; then I will return.’” 50:6 So Pharaoh said, “Go and bury your father, just as he made you swear to do.” 11
The Creation of the World
1:1 In the beginning 1 God 2 created 3 the heavens and the earth. 4
1:2 Now 5 the earth 6 was without shape and empty, 7 and darkness 8 was over the surface of the watery deep, 9 but the Spirit of God 10 was moving 11 over the surface 12 of the water. 13 1:3 God said, 14 “Let there be 15 light.” 16 And there was light! 1:4 God saw 17 that the light was good, 18 so God separated 19 the light from the darkness. 1:5 God called 20 the light “day” and the darkness 21 “night.” There was evening, and there was morning, marking the first day. 22
1:6 God said, “Let there be an expanse 23 in the midst of the waters and let it separate water 24 from water. 1:7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. 25 It was so. 26 1:8 God called the expanse “sky.” 27 There was evening, and there was morning, a second day.
