Abram’s Solution to the Strife

1 So Abram went up from Egypt into the Negev. 1  He took his wife and all his possessions with him, as well as Lot. 2

16 He retrieved all the stolen property. 1  He also brought back his nephew Lot and his possessions, as well as the women and the rest of 2  the people.

12 When the sun went down, Abram fell sound asleep, 1  and great terror overwhelmed him. 2

10 This is my requirement that you and your descendants after you must keep: 1  Every male among you must be circumcised. 2
9 if he will sell 1  me the cave of Machpelah that belongs to him; it is at the end of his field. Let him sell it to me publicly 2  for the full price, 3  so that I may own it as a burial site.”

4 I will multiply your descendants so they will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them 1  all these lands. All the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants. 2  26:5 All this will come to pass 3  because Abraham obeyed me 4  and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.” 5
