3:7 But when he saw many Pharisees ¹  and Sadducees ²  coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 3:8 Therefore produce fruit ³  that proves your ⁴  repentance, 3:9 and don’t think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones! 3:10 Even now the ax is laid at ⁵  the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

3:11 “I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am – I am not worthy ⁶  to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. ⁷  3:12 His winnowing fork ⁸  is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, ⁹  but the chaff he will burn up with inextinguishable fire.” ¹⁰ 

7:17 The flood engulfed the earth for forty days. As the waters increased, they lifted the ark and raised it above the earth. 7:18 The waters completely overwhelmed ¹  the earth, and the ark floated ²  on the surface of the waters. 7:19 The waters completely inundated ³  the earth so that even ⁴  all the high mountains under the entire sky were covered. 7:20 The waters rose more than twenty feet ⁵  above the mountains. ⁶  7:21 And all living things ⁷  that moved on the earth died, including the birds, domestic animals, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all humankind. 7:22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life ⁸  in its nostrils died. 7:23 So the Lord ⁹  destroyed ¹⁰  every living thing that was on the surface of the ground, including people, animals, creatures that creep along the ground, and birds of the sky. ¹¹  They were wiped off the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark survived. ¹²
