5:23 Which is easier, 1 to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’? 5:24 But so that you may know 2 that the Son of Man 3 has authority on earth to forgive sins” – he said to the paralyzed man 4 – “I tell you, stand up, take your stretcher 5 and go home.” 6 5:25 Immediately 7 he stood up before them, picked 8 up the stretcher 9 he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying 10 God. 5:26 Then 11 astonishment 12 seized them all, and they glorified 13 God. They were filled with awe, 14 saying, “We have seen incredible 15 things 16 today.” 17
The Call of Levi; Eating with Sinners
5:27 After 18 this, Jesus 19 went out and saw a tax collector 20 named Levi 21 sitting at the tax booth. 22 “Follow me,” 23 he said to him. 5:28 And he got up and followed him, leaving everything 24 behind. 25
5:29 Then 26 Levi gave a great banquet 27 in his house for Jesus, 28 and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting 29 at the table with them. 5:30 But 30 the Pharisees 31 and their experts in the law 32 complained 33 to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 34
