2:39 So 1 when Joseph and Mary 2 had performed 3 everything according to the law of the Lord, 4 they returned to Galilee, to their own town 5 of Nazareth. 6 2:40 And the child grew and became strong, 7 filled with wisdom, 8 and the favor 9 of God 10 was upon him.
Jesus in the Temple
2:41 Now 11 Jesus’ 12 parents went to Jerusalem 13 every 14 year for the feast of the Passover. 15 2:42 When 16 he was twelve years old, 17 they went up 18 according to custom. 2:43 But 19 when the feast was over, 20 as they were returning home, 21 the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His 22 parents 23 did not know it, 2:44 but (because they assumed that he was in their group of travelers) 24 they went a day’s journey. Then 25 they began to look for him among their relatives and acquaintances. 26 2:45 When 27 they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem 28 to look for him. 2:46 After 29 three days 30 they found him in the temple courts, 31 sitting among the teachers, 32 listening to them and asking them questions. 2:47 And all who heard Jesus 33 were astonished 34 at his understanding and his answers. 2:48 When 35 his parents 36 saw him, they were overwhelmed. His 37 mother said to him, “Child, 38 why have you treated 39 us like this? Look, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.” 40 2:49 But 41 he replied, 42 “Why were you looking for me? 43 Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 44 2:50 Yet 45 his parents 46 did not understand 47 the remark 48 he made 49 to them. 2:51 Then 50 he went down with them and came to Nazareth, 51 and was obedient 52 to them. But 53 his mother kept all these things 54 in her heart. 55
2:52 And Jesus increased 56 in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people.
