Bible: John 14:16-31; 16:7-15

14:16 Then 1  I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate 2  to be with you forever 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, 3  because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides 4  with you and will be 5  in you.

14:18I will not abandon 6  you as orphans, 7  I will come to you. 8  14:19 In a little while 9  the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too. 14:20 You will know at that time 10  that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you. 14:21 The person who has my commandments and obeys 11  them is the one who loves me. 12  The one 13  who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal 14  myself to him.”

14:22Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot) 15  said, 16 what has happened that you are going to reveal 17  yourself to us and not to the world? 14:23 Jesus replied, 18 If anyone loves me, he will obey 19  my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him. 20  14:24 The person who does not love me does not obey 21  my words. And the word 22  you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

14:25I have spoken these things while staying 23  with you. 14:26 But the Advocate, 24  the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you 25  everything, 26  and will cause you to remember everything 27  I said to you.

14:27Peace I leave with you; 28  my peace I give to you; I do not give it 29  to you as the world does. 30  Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. 31  14:28 You heard me say to you, 32 I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad 33  that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. 34  14:29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. 35  14:30 I will not speak with you much longer, 36  for the ruler of this world is coming. 37  He has no power over me, 38  14:31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know 39  that I love the Father. 40  Get up, let us go from here.” 41

16:7 The Lord’s angel 1  found Hagar near a spring of water in the desert – the spring that is along the road to Shur. 2  16:8 He said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She replied, “I’m running away from 3  my mistress, Sarai.”

16:9 Then the Lord’s angel said to her, “Return to your mistress and submit 4  to her authority. 16:10 I will greatly multiply your descendants,” the Lord’s angel added, 5  “so that they will be too numerous to count.” 6  16:11 Then the Lord’s angel said to her,

“You are now 7  pregnant

and are about to give birth 8  to a son.

You are to name him Ishmael, 9

for the Lord has heard your painful groans. 10

16:12 He will be a wild donkey 11  of a man.

He will be hostile to everyone, 12

and everyone will be hostile to him. 13

He will live away from 14  his brothers.”

16:13 So Hagar named the Lord who spoke to her, “You are the God who sees me,” 15  for she said, “Here I have seen one who sees me! 16  16:14 That is why the well was called 17  Beer Lahai Roi. 18  (It is located 19  between Kadesh and Bered.)

16:15 So Hagar gave birth to Abram’s son, whom Abram named Ishmael. 20
