Bible: Joel 2:28-32; 3:1-5

An Outpouring of the Spirit

2:28 1  After all of this 2

I will pour out my Spirit 3  on all kinds of people. 4

Your sons and daughters will prophesy.

Your elderly will have revelatory dreams; 5

your young men will see prophetic visions.

2:29 Even on male and female servants

I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

2:30 I will produce portents both in the sky 6  and on the earth

blood, fire, and columns of smoke.

2:31 The sunlight will be turned to darkness

and the moon to the color of blood, 7

before the day of the Lord comes

that great and terrible day!

2:32 It will so happen that

everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered. 8

For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem 9  there will be those who survive, 10

just as the Lord has promised;

the remnant 11  will be those whom the Lord will call. 12

The Temptation and the Fall

3:1 Now 1  the serpent 2  was more shrewd 3

than any of the wild animals 4  that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Is it really true that 5  God 6  said, ‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard? 7  3:2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat 8  of the fruit from the trees of the orchard; 3:3 but concerning the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the orchard God said, ‘You must not eat from it, and you must not touch it, 9  or else you will die.’ 10  3:4 The serpent said to the woman, “Surely you will not die, 11  3:5 for God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will open 12  and you will be like divine beings who know 13  good and evil.” 14
