Bible: Isaiah 37:14-20; 40:12-31; 42:5-9; 44:24-28; 45:8-12

37:14 Hezekiah took the letter 1  from the messengers and read it. 2  Then Hezekiah went up to the Lord’s temple and spread it out before the Lord. 37:15 Hezekiah prayed before the Lord: 37:16 O Lord who commands armies, O God of Israel, who is enthroned on the cherubim! 3  You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the sky 4  and the earth. 37:17 Pay attention, Lord, and hear! Open your eyes, Lord, and observe! Listen to this entire message Sennacherib sent and how he taunts the living God! 5  37:18 It is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the nations 6  and their lands. 37:19 They have burned the gods of the nations, 7  for they are not really gods, but only the product of human hands manufactured from wood and stone. That is why the Assyrians could destroy them. 8  37:20 Now, O Lord our God, rescue us from his power, so all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.” 9

40:12This is its meaning,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches represent 1  three days.

42:5 So Israel’s sons came to buy grain among the other travelers, 1  for the famine was severe in the land of Canaan.

42:6 Now Joseph was the ruler of the country, the one who sold grain to all the people of the country. 2  Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down 3  before him with 4  their faces to the ground. 42:7 When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger 5  to them and spoke to them harshly. He asked, “Where do you come from?” They answered, 6 From the land of Canaan, to buy grain for food.” 7

42:8 Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him. 42:9 Then Joseph remembered 8  the dreams he had dreamed about them, and he said to them, “You are spies; you have come to see if our land is vulnerable! 9

44:24 When we returned to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

44:25Then our father said, ‘Go back and buy us a little food.’ 44:26 But we replied, ‘We cannot go down there. 1  If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go, 2  for we won’t be permitted to see the man’s face if our youngest brother is not with us.’

44:27Then your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife gave me two sons. 3  44:28 The first disappeared 4  and I said, “He has surely been torn to pieces.” I have not seen him since.

45:8 So now, it is not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me an adviser 1  to Pharaoh, lord over all his household, and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 45:9 Now go up to my father quickly 2  and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: “God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay! 45:10 You will live 3  in the land of Goshen, and you will be near me – you, your children, your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and everything you have. 45:11 I will provide you with food 4  there because there will be five more years of famine. Otherwise you would become poor – you, your household, and everyone who belongs to you.”’ 45:12 You and my brother Benjamin can certainly see with your own eyes that I really am the one who speaks to you. 5
