12:18 At daybreak ¹  there was great consternation ²  among the soldiers over what had become of Peter. 12:19 When Herod ³  had searched ⁴  for him and did not find him, he questioned ⁵  the guards and commanded that they be led away to execution. ⁶  Then ⁷  Herod ⁸  went down from Judea to Caesarea ⁹  and stayed there.

12:20 Now Herod ¹⁰  was having an angry quarrel ¹¹  with the people of Tyre ¹²  and Sidon. ¹³  So they joined together ¹⁴  and presented themselves before him. And after convincing ¹⁵  Blastus, the king’s personal assistant, ¹⁶  to help them, ¹⁷  they asked for peace, ¹⁸  because their country’s food supply was provided by the king’s country. 12:21 On a day determined in advance, Herod ¹⁹  put on his royal robes, ²⁰  sat down on the judgment seat, ²¹  and made a speech ²²  to them. 12:22 But the crowd ²³  began to shout, ²⁴  “The voice of a god, ²⁵  and not of a man!” 12:23 Immediately an angel of the Lord ²⁶  struck ²⁷  Herod ²⁸  down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died. ²⁹
